What to Do If the Facebook and Instagram Apocalypse Had Your Business Sidelined (BMM EP045)

Today, I want to dive into something super important that I covered in the recent podcast episode of Business Mojo and Margaritas. If you didn’t catch it, we delved into the “Facebook and Instagram Apocalypse” and what you can do if these social media giants ever decide to take an unexpected vacation again.
Let's get real for a second—if you're putting all your business eggs in the Facebook or Instagram basket, you're setting yourself up for a major panic attack the next time they go offline. Trust me, you do not want to be that person freaking out, posting “I don’t know if you’ll see this, but…” messages. There are smarter ways to spend your time, my gorgeous entrepreneur!
Here are some clear and actionable takeaways for you:
Diversify Your Platforms
First things first, diversify where you are showing up. Facebook and Instagram may be popular, but they're not the end-all, be-all of social media. Think about LinkedIn, Pinterest, YouTube, and even up-and-coming platforms. Heck, there’s so much you can do with just an email list and a killer blog!
Know Your Audience
Are you trying to sell weight loss programs to moms? Fantastic! But don’t let anyone tell you that Facebook groups are the only place to find them. Think about where these moms actually go when they need info—Dr. Google often points them to Pinterest, YouTube, and blogs. So get your brilliant content in those places!
Become a Multi-Platform Maven
If the recent social media hiccup taught us anything, it’s the importance of having more than one platform in your arsenal. Here’s a list of tried-and-true platforms where you might want to plant your business flag:
- Pinterest: Amazing for health coaches and any visually-driven business.
- LinkedIn: Not just for stodgy old professionals. It’s vibrant and a treasure trove for business coaches and even product-based businesses.
- YouTube: Perfect for educational content. If you’re a whiz with video, get your gorgeous face on there.
- Publications: Don’t underestimate the power of being published. It’s not just for the super famous!
- Podcasts: These are hot, hot, hot. Look for shows that align with your niche and showcase your expertise.
Be Ready for the Unexpected
The key is to be prepared. Think of alternative ways you can reach your audience if Zuck decides to pull the plug on your favorite platform. Having a solid email list and possibly even an interactive hub like a Membervault or Kajabi site can keep your business thriving no matter what.
Focus on What Matters
When exploring new platforms, always remember where your ideal clients hang out. Tailor your strategy to be where they are, not just where it's trendy to be. Get creative, and let your unique voice shine through in everything you do!
I hope you found these tips helpful and that you’re now feeling more confident about diversifying your online presence. We’re in this together, and I’m here to help you build a resilient, badass business that can withstand any social media apocalypse.
