Whether you’re cozying up with your morning coffee or catching a few moments of calm in your busy day, I’ve got some golden nuggets of wisdom from our recent podcast episode with the phenomenal Tamiko Kelly. As you know, Tamiko is a baby sleep expert and life-saver for many sleep-deprived moms out there. But, her insights extend far beyond just getting those little ones to bed. So, grab a margarita (if it’s that time of day!) and let’s dive in.
1. Prioritize Your Peace: Get Real with Your Goals
One of the first gems Tamiko shared was the importance of recognizing and deciding on the changes you want to make. Just like getting your baby to sleep starts with deciding it’s a problem that needs solving, the same goes for your business and personal life. Look at what's keeping you up at night—figuratively and literally. Are you staying up till the wee hours answering emails or trying to finish tasks? It's time to decide if this is working for you or if changes need to be made.
Takeaway: Make a commitment to identify and work on issues that disrupt your peace. It’s okay to say “No more!” and create an action plan to reclaim your sanity.
2. Create Boundaries: You Deserve Them
Tamiko and I both emphasized the power of setting boundaries. Whether it's establishing a consistent bedtime for your baby or firm business hours for yourself, boundaries protect your time and energy. Can we all agree that saying “No” doesn’t make you a horrible person?
Takeaway: Define what hours you’re available for work and hold firm to them. It’s totally okay to set those expectations—your friends, family, and clients will understand and respect your time.
3. Outsource and Delegate: The Secret Sauce
Tamiko's mantra, "Delegation rules the nation," is music to my overworked ears! If certain tasks make you want to pull your hair out, it’s time to delegate. Find someone who can take over those duties. This not only frees up your time but also brings fresh energy and possibly new ideas to your business.
Takeaway: Identify tasks you can outsource, whether it’s hiring a VA or getting your laundry done. This isn’t about shirking responsibility; it’s about smart resource management.
4. The Anti-Hustle Mentality
We hit the nail on the head discussing how the hustle culture can be detrimental. Contrary to what some business gurus might preach, working yourself to the bone isn’t the only way to achieve success. In fact, it might even hinder your progress. Tamiko shared her belief in working smart, not hard, and I couldn’t agree more.
Takeaway: Ditch the round-the-clock grind. Focus on quality over quantity. Plan your days effectively and make time for rest and rejuvenation.
5. Honor and Love Yourself
The most important point we talked about was the necessity of honoring yourself. You are your business’s biggest asset, and taking care of yourself should be your top priority. Without self-care, every other facet of your life and business will suffer.
Takeaway: Make self-care a non-negotiable part of your routine. Set those boundaries unapologetically and give yourself permission to rest and recharge. Your business will benefit from a healthier, happier you.
I hope these insights lighten your load and brighten your path. Tamiko’s advice isn't just for moms—it's for all of us striving to balance multiple roles and responsibilities. Remember, you’re not alone, and you don’t have to do it all by yourself.
Until next time, keep shining, setting those boundaries, and delegating like a pro. If you loved this read, do share it with your fellow entrepreneurs who could use a boost!
P.S. I’d love to hear about your experiences with setting boundaries and delegating! Drop me a note or join the conversation over in my Facebook group. Let’s continue to support and uplift each other on this incredible journey.
